I had damaged the white connector on the standard VdH headshell leads on my SME V and having replaced the phono cable with a Furutech AG-16, I thought I’d try different headshell cables. I chose the Cardas leads as they have thin, flexible wires whereas the standard VdH leads are thick and inflexible, which led the the problem I had previously. The flexible cables proved a boon when installing the new leads, but the long colour-coded sheafs around the connectors somewhat undermined this benefit, leaving me with the white lead bent at an angle from the cartridge. However, it all works and the sound adds to the relaxed, very detailed sound engendered by the AG-16 phono cable. The standard VdH cable sounds forward and has noticeable mid-range colouration that the combined Cardas/Furutech cables remove, sounding much more natural but with greater control and better dynamics when required.
